New experimental findings by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory show that exposure to ionizing radiation (mammography) creates a microenvironment in the tissue surrounding breast cells that can cause even non-radiated cells to become cancerous. The discovery suggests new and possibly more effective means for preventing breast cancer.

This issue of yearly mammograms as an effective protection against cancer has always been debated in the medical community. Statistical analysis has shown mammography to be no more effective than breast exams in preventing breast cancer. The simple reason is by the time a mass is felt or seen on the x-ray, it is already 8 years into the development process.

For many years a safe alternative has been available to the public. That technology is called Infrared Thermal Imaging. Within the first year, dyplastic cells can grow new blood vessels (angio-genesis). This change in vascularity can now be seen on Thermal Images and followed up with safe and effective repeat scans. Dietary changes and hormone level checks using EPFX Biofeedback can help significantly reduce the risk of these adherent cells turning to breast mass.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is a great time to have a self breast exam and a Thermal Imaging Breast Scan. This scan can be used as a baseline for future reference and immediate identification of any breast areas of concern. The Natural Medicine Clinic is offering a 20% discount on Thermal Imaging and interpretation costs during the month of October. I urge women to take a proactive stance on their health.
