| I ran
across an interesting article recently that described how drug
companies deceive doctors. This article exposed two forms of
illegal skull duggery going on in the medical association. One
is called “Medical Ghostwriting”. Doctors relying on medical
journals to learn about prescription drugs. What is now being
practiced is the hiring of PhD’s to write drug reports that hype
the benefits and hide negative side effects. Drug companies then
recruit M.D.’s to put their name on these reports as authors.
The reports are published in the medical journals and you are
given this information by your family doctor, trusting that his
knowledge will benefit and heal you or one of your family
members. The deceit comes because of money and recognition.
These PhD ghostwriters collect over $20,000 per report, while
the M.D.’s receive accolades from their peers for these
published articles which are seen and used by hundreds of
thousands of doctors around the world. The New England Journal
of Medicine has admitted to 50% of their drug articles written
by ghostwriters.
The other weapon is called “Checkbook Science”. This is
research intended to sell drugs, not help your families health
care. Drug companies use check book science to sponsor their own
drug research within academic and government institutions (NIH).
Money is used to design their own studies, interpret the results
and hide negative side effects. One third of academic professors
have ties to drug companies called the “Stealth Merger” by the
L.A. Times. Top scientists at national institutes of health also
collect pay checks and stock options from…yes, you guessed
correctly, the drug industry. This has been going on for over 20
years now. Known as the Bayh-Doyle Act, U.S. law was amended in
1980 to allow for these flagrant conflicts of interest.
So there you have it. When next you take a family
member in for a check up and your physician prescribes a drug,
stop and ask him/her about the research done on this product.
He/she will probably tell you about the research done by leading
peer reviewed journals such as The New England Journal of
Medicine. You can then smile and say no thanks and have a laugh
on the way to your car, because if you don’t laugh you will
freeze over the ramifications of this articles and how
widespread the deceit runs.
The Natural Medicine Clinic does not participate in any
of these games. We are here to serve you and your families
health needs using natural medicines that have been used safely
and effectively for thousands of years.
