Is
canola oil good for you? We’ve all been told canola is one of
the healthiest oils on
the
market. It is derived from rapeseed, a member of the mustard
family, which is
generally
unfit for human consumption and was once more commonly used as a
potent
pesticide
and lubricant. The reason canola is particularly unsuited for
consumption is
because
it contains a very long chain fatty acid called Erucic Acid.
Erucic Acid is known to
be
associated with fibrotic heart lesions and other areas of
decreased cardiac health.
Also it creates a deficiency in vitamin E, which is essential
for good heart health.
The praise for this oil is not coming from the New York ad agency firms,
but from the
Canadian
Government (Canola is an amalgam for the word “Canada”).
Rapeseed is a
chief
export product for Canada. Independent Canadian researchers
found in a study
that
ingesting oils such as Canola, results in a high degree of
unsaturation in membrane
lipids
(dangerous free radicals) which cause lesions on arteries and
other cardiovascular
insults.
What is a better choice of oils?
Undeniably, organic cold pressed coconut oil for
cooking
at medium temperatures and olive oil for salads. Flaxseed and
Fish Oils are also
needed
for proper health. These good oils help lubricate the digestive
tract, balance
hormones,
coats nerves, and eat away free radicals.
Do you know that if your body is
deficient of healthy oils or fatty acids? Our
biofeedback
program can answer this question for you. We can also suggest
other
healthy
oils and good fats your body may be missing.
Sorry Paul Newman, but I think I’ll stay away from your healthy dressing
and other
products
where canola oil is listed as the number one ingredient.
